Reef science fact check
An opinion article in The Australian on 7th December 2020 stated that “The amount of coral, while fluctuating dramatically from year to year, is about the same today as when records began in the 1980s”.
This statement is inconsistent with the findings from AIMS data drawn from 35 years of uninterrupted monitoring records of the Great Barrier which show a long-term decline in coral cover.
