Science Advisory Panel

Expressions of interest now open

The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) is establishing a Science Advisory Panel to provide independent, external advice on the strategic direction, credibility and real-world impact of our research.

Purpose

The Panel will provide advice on matters including:

  • strategic direction and research portfolio priorities;
  • the credibility and feasibility of research impact pathways;
  • barriers to research adoption and translation;
  • emerging scientific opportunities, risks and capability gaps;
  • equity and sustainability of research impact; and
  • the public value delivered through AIMS research.

The Science Advisory Panel will be advisory in nature and will not be a decision-making body. Its advice and recommendations will be provided to the AIMS Chief Executive Officer.

Membership

The Panel will comprise up to six external members, including a Chair, with collective expertise relevant to AIMS' Strategy 2040 research themes and broader experience across marine and environmental science, policy, industry, research translation, data and digital technologies, and First Nations knowledge and sea Country management.

AIMS will seek a diversity of expertise, experience and perspectives across the Panel.
