Research

I investigate the mechanisms by which water is exchanged between the coastal oceans and the deep sea. I use mathematical tools, numerical ocean models, and field observations to understand the underlying ocean physics.

My current research involves:

  • understanding ocean dynamics on seasonal and interannual timescales off North and Western Australia, including the 2011 marine heat wave, 2015-2016 bleaching event in the Northern Great Barrier Reef
  • understanding processes that drive upwelling along the Great Barrier Reef.
