About this exciting opportunity
Joining our Data Analytics and AI group as a Machine Learning / AI Engineer, you will have a key role in advancing data analytics and AI applications across AIMS and enabling the delivery of insights, solutions and support to end-users and stakeholders. These roles are responsible for providing consultancy and implementing advanced analytics solutions to implement AI, machine learning, statistics and other data science solutions to enable innovation across a diverse set of research applications. Driving innovation and enhancement in AIMS AI and ML solutions you will support innovating new methodologies as well as adopting existing methodologies to enable us to stay at the forefront in marine science research.
Drawing on your experience, you will work collaboratively with research teams across AIMS to contribute to the development of multiple platforms and innovative products being developed at AIMS, including ReefCloud and ReefScan. Your involvement in these initiatives will include supporting internal consultancies and capability development initiatives with researchers and on projects, prioritising scalability and robustness of modelling techniques to ensure long-term sustainability, and establishing best practices for AI, data science and data management through the development of frameworks.
About you
We are looking for someone passionate about optimising and implementing machine learning models, who is excited to focus on advancing these capabilities to ensure we are leaders in marine science research. Having an advanced degree or post graduate qualifications in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field, you will be confident in developing and productionising AI and Machine Learning models (including deep learning models, LLMs, vision transformers and other generative AI models) to solve industrial problems.
Your highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills and previous experience demonstrate your deep understanding of modern ML/AI architectures and their placement in the wider enterprise analytics platforms. You will be confident programming using languages such as Python, R, Java and experienced working with different data science platforms and services (including on-prem, HPC and cloud-based services). You will be a team player, effective communicator and have proven experience partnering with a broad range of stakeholders, clients and teams.

AIMS AOF Level 5 salary ($117,806 to $129,148 per annum) plus 15.4% superannuation

Please note:
Non-Australian Citizens must hold an appropriate Visa with working entitlements that allows paid employment with AIMS from commencement and for the term of the appointment, depending on the relevant Department of Home Affairs current policies. AIMS may be able to consider sponsorship for international applicants for this role, however, please note that visa processing times can impact the ability for AIMS to consider sponsorship for vacancies. AIMS must meet the requirements of the Department of Home Affairs immigration policies and processes, including the necessity to test the local labour market for suitable applicants. This includes international talent pool members who are Australian visa holders who have relevant working rights.
