The Australian Institute of Marine Science is the leading national organisation researching tropical marine ecosystems. The Institute has world-class laboratory facilities in Townsville Queensland, Perth Western Australia and Darwin Northern Territory, two modern research vessels and extensive technical support.

AIMS is internationally renowned for its capabilities in marine biodiversity, water quality, marine microbiology and climate change. Significant federal government funding is being invested into the AIMS Tropical Marine Research Facilities Project of which a key outcome is the commissioning of the National Sea Simulator.

Design and construction of this state-of-the-art experimental aquarium facility is currently underway at the AIMS Cape Ferguson Research Facility in Townsville, Queensland. This new facility will support innovative research into coral reef ecology, coral spawning, water quality and climate change. A prototype facility is nearing completion and an opportunity for a Controls Technician has been created to steer this project into the future.

The Controls Technician will assist in the development, construction and operation of the electrical and controls systems within the prototype and primary National Sea Simulator facilities. Experience in the design, fabrication and maintenance of control systems and associated electrical systems such as SCADA, PLC, HIM and other devices is essential.

An electrical trade and diploma in electrical engineering or similar qualifications are required. The ability to undertake site management duties including supervising contractors will be considered highly advantageous.

Attractive working conditions apply including a remuneration package of $71,258 - $81,091 plus up to 15.4% superannuation, learning and development opportunities, generous leave entitlements, 9 day fortnight, commuter car transportation to site and many other benefits.  This opportunity will initially be offered for a fixed term period of three years.
