About these Exciting Opportunities

You will be joining a well-established team working together to deliver and enhance the next generation of coral reef monitoring technology called ReefCloud. You will contribute to extending the existing ReefCloud program by building software using the latest cloud, big data and machine learning technologies and orchestrating data workflows that enable upscaled collection of marine imagery and data.

Using your experience and creativity you will build elegant solutions for our research data platform and take leadership of driving innovation and mentorship on best practice software design, implementation, and deployment.

You will act as an authority in Application Programming Interfaces (API) design, setting the standards and procedures that allow for others to access data and features of applications for AIMS research data systems, including ReefCloud. At AIMS, the way we work guides our team members' on their collective journey towards the successful delivery of our AIMS Strategy 2025 targets.

Please note:

  1. Non-Australian Citizens must hold an appropriate Visa with working entitlements that allows paid employment with AIMS for the term of the appointment, depending on the relevant Department of Home Affairs current policies.
  2. Perth & Darwin locations - It is a requirement of this role that you are and remain fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Please note the sighting of proof of vaccination will be required as a pre commencement requirement. Townsville location - AIMS strongly encourages all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Whilst it is not currently a mandatory requirement for this role, AIMS reserves the right to review its position and policy on mandatory vaccinations. It may therefore become a mandatory requirement for this role in the future.

About you

Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or Computer Systems Engineering (or equivalent work experience), coupled with extensive practical experience in software development using Python or similar language are essential to your success in this role. You will also have:

  • Experience in full-stack web development using modern frameworks, including database design, REST service development and front-end development
  • Expert knowledge of API design and implementation, coupled with experience designing and implementing cloud-based software solutions (DevOps)
  • Well-developed communication skills, and familiar working within an agile team and engaging with a wide range of clients/end users
  • A creative mind and be able to think of solutions and alternative options and perspectives to problems
  • Experience with front end frameworks like Angular, React or Vu, and experience writing spatial queries in PostGIS would be highly desirable
