About this Opportunity

Our Senior Network Engineer is an exciting opportunity for you to play a supporting role for world leading marine research. Using your high-level capabilities and expertise you will provide Information Technology services and support to enterprise clients within both our research and corporate environments. You will diagnose and solve network related problems, develop and administer cyber-security mitigation policies and strategies, maintain and audit our network, assets and change control registers, and continuously seek ways to deliver effective IT services through new or improved technologies.

About AIMS' Information and Communication Technology Team

The Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Services team provides computing and telephony resources, systems and infrastructure to enable our science experts to build Australia’s national marine science capability so that together we can meet the challenges facing our marine estate. Our capability and capacity for ongoing internal and external stakeholder connectivity over our geographical footprint is fundamental to our ability to securely communicate including the sharing of scientific data and information. The Information and Technology Team specialise in:

  • I.T. Helpdesk as a first point of call for assistance.
  • Assist with computing and telephone resources.
  • Online security, collaboration, and network assistance.
  • Computing infrastructure including storage disk space.
  • Complete backups of IT network systems.
  • Responsible for all IT security and disaster recovery plans

About you

Success in this role will be dependent on the capabilities that you have obtained through your formal studies (degree in electrical, electronic or computer engineering) and/or equivalent experience and industry certifications. Then, relying on your professional experience, you will have developed strong technical expertise in cyber-securty mitigation strategies and the design and management of mid-large scale enterprise data and voice networks including physical cabling, TCP/IP L2 & L3 network protocols and services. Having substantial experience configuring and maintaining devices such as switches, routers, and wireless access points, with a preference for Cisco CCIE qualifications, will ensure that you have the capabilities to maintain documentation of configurations, code, processes and procedures along with diagrams of logical and physical networks and services.
