About this Opportunity

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and the Queensland Department of Environment and Science, through the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, operate the Joint Field Management Program (JFMP) for the marine and island national parks, encompassing the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and the Great Barrier Reef Coast Marine Park. AIMS and the JFMP are working together to develop and deploy a range of new technical solutions to deliver new capacity in marine monitoring. This underpins work to document the status of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, to implement conservation strategies, and to ensure the long-term sustainability of the reef.

Working as part of the Technology Development team, our Marine Mechanical Engineer – Development and Build, will be responsible for the delivery of innovative monitoring solutions through the management of the design, build and test process to integrate developed components and designs into functional solutions for our clients. Using your combined practical Mechanical Engineering and Project Management capabilities, you will take existing designs and components and manage the development and integration of these into systems that are then tested, trialled, and certified for use.

You will manage and supervise the contracting and manufacture of systems and platforms and will, as part of a team, supervise in-water testing and operationalisation of the systems and platforms developed including working directly with clients to integrate their needs into the final designs and acceptance testing of the delivered systems. About You

Your suitability for this role, will be dependent on your tertiary qualifications in mechanical, maritime, or aeronautical engineering, and your relevant post-grad expertise (or equivalent knowledge and experience) that will demonstrate your capabilities, as part of a team, for managing the process of delivering novel monitoring solutions through a development, build, integration, testing and operationalisation process. The position will have overall responsibility for managing the delivery of solutions to our clients including direct management of the build, integration, testing and operationalisation phases.

As you will be required to apply your expertise in the field, your ability to work at sea, in remote locations, in often demanding conditions for extended periods will be vital to your success in this role. Additionally, your exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and strong organisational capabilities will enable you to collaboratively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including AIMS colleagues, external clients and researchers, to anticipate and reflect their needs and adapt individual or team activities to changes in client needs.
