27 July 2011 - Census of Marine Life wins prestigious international prize

The Scientific Steering Committee of the Census of Marine Life(CoML) - a grand global project to survey and analyse changes from past to present in marine life biodiversity, distribution and abundance and to compile it into a database accessible to all and to allow future forecasts - has won an international prize.

The International Cosmos Prize, announced in Japan today (27 July) upholds the principle of harmonious co-existence of nature and mankind, and has previously been awarded to Sir David Attenborough and Dr Richard Dawkins amongst others.

AIMS CEO, Dr Ian Poiner, is chairperson of the Scientific Steering Committee of CoML and with two other Census representatives will receive the award on behalf of the Census, in Japan in October ......more
