About this Opportunity
AIMS Reef Recovery, Adaptation and Restoration team is studying the evolutionary potential and adaptive mechanisms of key coral reef organisms to predict responses to climate warming and develop tools and approaches for enhancing coral reef resilience on the Great Barrier Reef. In this dynamic role, you will lead technical staff, students and post-doctoral fellows in the building of a research program in the field of population and adaptation genomics that can include modelling and analysis of laboratory and field experiments. The research program will take its basis in quantitative genetics and genomics however could include additional supporting physiological, molecular, symbiosis, environmental or other data. As a member of the research program team, you will make a significant contribution to AIMS research towards understanding the drivers and scales of genetic structure of reef building corals, predicting and measuring corals’ adaptability in response to current and predicted environmental change and developing genetic principles for management of natural populations and aquaculture breeding of corals for reseeding and adaptation purposes.

- AOF Level 5 or Level 6 Salary ($103,633 to $134,901 per annum) dependant on relevant qualification, skills and experience

Reflecting on your PhD learnings as well as your extensive postdoctoral experience, including your substantive work on the biology, ecology, physiology and genetics of corals or related, with a focus on adaptation and/or selective breeding, you will be able to demonstrate your capabilities including:
- ability to lead and implement a research program to understand the adaptive potential of natural and enhanced coral populations, and to develop and test context specific genetic tools for coral restoration and adaptation;
