Specialist Register

AIMS Specialist Register is a system that allows expressions of interest for possible employment, on a short-term casual or temporary basis, in the following areas at AIMS:

Scientific Research

Environmental Change and Impacts (ECAI)

Water Quality and Ecosystem Health (WQEH)

Biodiversity Assessment and Trends (BAT)

Biodiversity and Sustainable Use (BSU)

Microbiology and Biodiscovery (MAB)

Integration and Synthesis (IAS)

AIMS Support Services

Financial Services

Human Resources

Analytical Services

Engineering Services

Field Operations

Information Technology

Science Communication

Supply and Property Services

Due to the nature of temporary and short-term employment, minimal training is available and only those with the appropriate experience and qualifications for the specialised position will be considered. Please ensure you select the area of research or service to which your qualification and experience are most suited.

How long is temporary or short-term employment for?

Terms of employment through the Specialist Register vary in duration from one week to a maximum of 12 months on a permanent to part-time basis. Salary will vary depending on the experience and qualifications of applicants and the work involved.

Is this a waste of time and will my registration be taken seriously?

Although registration does not constitute an offer of employment, all temporary and short-term staff must first be sourced from the AIMS Specialist Register, in accordance with the collective agreement. If an appropriately qualified person for the position cannot be sourced from the registry, only then can the position be advertised. This guarantees that your application will be considered before the position is even advertised…so it’s worth your while to register now.

How do I register?

To register, complete a Registration Form for each the research or support areas to which you are most suited and attach a copy of your Curriculum Vitae, then forward to AIMS by email (recruitment@aims.gov.au) or post to:

The Recruitment Coordinator

Australian Institute of Marine Science

PMB 3 Mail Centre

TOWNSVILLE QLD 4810

Upon receipt, your Registration Form and Curriculum Vitae will be placed on our Specialist Register within your nominated areas, for a period of 12 months. At the end of the 12-month period you will be contacted in regard to registration and be given the opportunity to re-register and update your information as necessary.

Important notes:

It is vital that a separate Registration Form is completed for each area you wish to enrol in and a separate copy of your Curriculum Vitae must accompany each application. Failure to do this will result in your application being lodged in the first area you nominated for only.

Specialists who have received a voluntary redundancy from Australian Public Service employment in the last 12 months are not eligible for employment.

Non-Australian Residents requiring registration must hold a Temporary Work Visa
