Research
groups and projects
The
Conservation and Biodiversity Group
Group
leader - Julian Caley
The
Conservation and Biodiversity Group is a world leader in coral
reef biology, ecology and taxonomy and has the capacity to gain a
pre-eminent position in coral fish ecology, and seabed
biodiversity assessment.
The
Coastal Processes Group
Group
leader - Frank
Tirendi
The
Coastal Processes Group offers world leading capability in
mangrove ecology and a combination of biological oceanography,
biogeochemistry and coastal physical oceanography capability that
is unique in Australasia and SE Asia.
The Marine
Biotechnology Group
Group
leader - Chris
Battershill
The
Marine Biotechnology Group’s has capability in marine natural
products chemistry, molecular biology and physiology. The
combination of these skills with the ability to study and
manipulate organisms in the environment, both in sea and in the
AIMS Tropical Aquaculture Facility, provides unique opportunities
for biotechnology research applied to living organisms.
Each of
the these projects follow at least one of these five strategic
directions.
Strategic
directions
Deriving
benefits from marine biotechnology
Exploring
and conserving marine biodiversity
Measuring
human impacts in coastal marine ecosystems
Predicting
climate impacts upon marine ecosystems
Sustaining
coral reef ecosystems
