C-NAV has been created by a scientist at the Australian Institute of Marine Science. It features short documentary movies, quizzes, video transects and a large searchable database of coral reef plants and animals. It can be used as a support tool for teachers and will be of interest to people who work on the reef, in management agencies, or just to anyone who wants to know more about what they see underwater.
The Australian Institute of Marine Science conducts training programs in coral reef monitoring using the methods recommended by global reef monitoring
organisations. C-NAV provides instruction in standard methods for identifying coral reef benthic organisms as recommended by Reef Check and the Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network. It provides a reference collection and clear definitions for lifeforms to ensure that identifications are consistent throughout these global programs.
C-NAV requires Apple Quicktime and a dedicated version of Netscape Communicator Version 4.7.2.
