11. Where have outbreaks of crown-of-thorns starfish been recorded?

Apart from the Great Barrier Reef, outbreaks of crown-of-thorns starfish also have been reported in such places as the Ryukyu Islands (south-west of Japan), Micronesia, American Samoa, the Cook Islands, Fiji, the Society Islands, the Red Sea and Hawaii. Outbreaks are presently occurring in the Maldives and East Malaysia. Table / lists the places where crown-of-thorns starfish have been abundant in the Indo-Pacific region (see also Fig. 3).
