The Australian Institute of Marine Science
is holding an Open Day
July 3, 2005.
10am to 4pm

We invite you to visit Australia's tropical marine research agency and inspect displays on subjects ranging from microbiology to climate change.

Explore our state-of-the-art laboratories, tour the Field Operations facility, talk to our staff, listen to world renowned scientists in the lecture series and enjoy beautiful Turtle Beach. And the kids won't be left out - fish painting, story telling, a word search competition (win an iPod Mini®), Windy Wizard and a careers display - something for everybody!

Venue includes outdoor areas so don't forget your hat.

There are two ways to get here

By free public transport By private vehicle
Ross River Road bus stop, Stockland Plaza
(Enter the Stockland car park, via Nathan Street)

Buses leave from
9am–1pm every twenty minutes

Last Bus leaves AIMS for Townsville at 4pm.

 

Drive to the AIMS bus interchange on the AIMS access road (clearly signed) and a bus will transport you from there to the Institute. Parking is provided on the access road. No private cars are allowed on site - Disabled vehicles with passes are allowed on site.

AIMS turnoff is 32 km from the Townsville CBD on the south-bound Bruce Highway.

  • Food is available and there is entertainment for the kids;
    watch out for Windy Wizard
     
  • We ask you to respect the National Park status of the area and leave your domestic pets at home.

 Gates open at 10am - close at 4pm

 

How to get here

Travel on the south-bound Bruce Highway towards Ayr. The turn-off to AIMS is 32Kms from the Townsville CBD where the salt-pans, the Brisbane to Townsville railway line and the Bruce highway meet.

Turn left at the railway crossing and head north on the AIMS road for approximately 11kms to the public parking zone. A fleet of buses will transport you to and from the Institute which is located a further 5kms at Cape Ferguson.
