Genetics in Aquaculture VII
15-22 July 2000
Townsville, Australia

Guidelines for Authors

Three copies of manuscripts should be handed over by the end of the conference (21st July, 2000)

ABSTRACTS

The abstract should be typed in Times New Roman, font size 12, single spaced throughout and should include:

    1. a title (all in bold capital letters, species names in italics);
    2. a list of authors (upper and lower case, bold) with numerical superscripts to indicate the addresses of authors if necessary and underlining the name of the author who will present;
    3. the addresses of the authors (upper and lower case, not bold);
    4. the text of the abstract (upper and lower case, not bold), not exceeding 250 words.

All should be left justified (do not centre or right justify). A single blank line should separate the title from the author list, the author list and the address, and two blank lines should separate the text from the addresses. Margins of 3cm should be allowed at the left and right sides and top of the page. An example of these instructions is given below.

MONOSEX FEMALE PRODUCTION IN THE SILVER BARB
(PUNTIUS GONIONOTUS BLEEKER)

    2. Institute of Aquaculture. University of Stirling, Stirling FK9 4LA, Scotland.

This paper describes hormonal masculinisation of genetically female, gynogenetic silver barbs (Puntius gonionotus) and the results of crosses between such neomales and ordinary females. Gynogenetic fish (previously shown to be all females) were used in hormonal masculinisation experiments to simplify assessment of the results. Treatment with 25mgkg-1 17a-methyltestosterone in the diet for 4 to 5 weeks, starting at two weeks post-hatch, produced 33.9% and 29.8% males respectively. The majority of crosses between such males and ordinary females gave all-female progeny, which supports the hypothesis of female homogamety and establishes that large-scale production of monosex females is feasible in this species.

Deadline for Registration and Abstract Submission is 31st January, 2000

PAPERS

Papers should follow the instructions for authors for the journal Aquaculture. Manuscripts should not exceed 12 printed journal pages.

POSTERS

Posters should be no more than 0.7 metre (horizontal) by 1.2 metre (vertical). The boards that will be made available will take pins or velcro. In order to assist readers, and improve the chances that your poster will be read, make sure to use a large print size, and to limit the amount of writing to the key points you wish to make.
