Great Barrier Reef Marine Park

The Great Barrier Reef is approximately 2,300 Km in length, of which 1,950 Km of its length has been declared a marine park 345,000 sq. Km in area.

The marine park comprises about 2,900 reefs, 890 fringing reefs, 300 coral cays and more than 600 continental islands.

There are about 1,500 species of fish and more than 400 species of coral.

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park fronts right up to the city of Townsville and extends for approximately 100 km seawards, 650 km southwards and 1,300 km northwards.
