The Australian Institute of Marine Science welcomes funding of $5
million in the Federal Budget to help implement a new venture in
collaboration with James Cook University.
Professor Hall said AIMS at JCU would operate internationally, with
a focus on attracting the best researchers and students to Australia
and our region. "We aim to establish AIMS at JCU as the Harvard
Business School of tropical marine science education and research
training," he said.
In addition, AIMS at JCU will focus on enhancing the capacity of
both organizations to attract research funding and further support to
deliver marine science outcomes identified by the Government as
national research priorities.
"We are delighted to see the Federal Government supporting
Australian research that is recognised around the world as the best in
its field. This extra money will help us build on our international
research reputation and develop a stronger educational orientation,
with the emphasis on postgraduate education and training."
