To
help minimise the number of sea-turtle mortalities in
your area:
-
Ensure
that any prawns you buy are turtle-safe (caught by
trawlers using turtle-exclusion devices - TEDs).
-
Remove
rubbish (especially plastics) from beaches.
-
Operate
boats at slow speeds in areas where turtles are
known to occur (such as over seagrass beds).
-
Do
not disturb nesting turtles - keep away from the
animal and keep all torches and lights turned off.
-
Do
not light fires on, or drive over beaches where
turtles are known to nest.
-
Report
any sightings of dead or injured sea turtles to the
Marine Strandings Hotline on 1300 360 898.
