For
many species - loggerheads, kemp's ridley, leatherback
and hawksbill turtles -- global declines have reached a
point where populations are considered to be critically
endangered.
Through our
inaction, are we going to witness the extinction of
these species?

Sea
Turtles have lived in the Earth's Oceans for nearly 220
million years and are charismatic symbols of marine
ecosystems. However, in only a few short decades, human
impacts have seriously threatened the continued survival
of all seven species of sea turtle in the world.
-
Loss
of nesting and feeding habitat;
-
capture
in fishing trawl nets;
-
collision
with boats;
-
over-harvesting
of turtles and their eggs;
-
marine
pollution;
-
disease
through poor water quality;
all
contribute to declines in sea turtle populations.
