Welcome to the first edition of "Waypoint" – AIMS' quarterly newsletter designed to keep you informed on the latest developments in marine science and technology. As Australia's tropical marine research agency, the Australian Institute of Marine Science conducts research, often in collaboration with local, national and international agencies, into aspects of marine conservation and biodiversity, marine biotechnology and coastal processes. Through these activities, AIMS researchers are helping to ensure that the use of our precious marine resources is consistent with the long-term needs of all Australians. The Institute values the interests, and shares the concerns, of individuals and organisations having a key role to play in assisting us with, or benefiting from, our activities.
