AIMS Council appointment

Ms Anna Matsyek has been appointed as a member of the AIMS Council for a five-year term.

Sydney-based economist and management consultant, Ms Anna Matysek, has been appointed as a member of the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) Council for a five-year term from June 2017.

Her appointment, endorsed by the Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, the Honourable Arthur Sinodinos AO, brings the number of women on the AIMS Council to four, in a Council of seven members.

Welcoming Ms Matysek’s appointment, Council Chairman, The Honourable Penelope Wensley AC, anticipated that the new Council member would make a valuable contribution to Council discussions:

“Ms Matysek has over 15 years’ experience working in both public and private sectors, including top-tier corporates, small business, not-for-profit, and government agencies. Her work in the resources, energy and infrastructure sectors, in the areas of strategy development and implementation, economic and management consulting, mergers and divestments, and quantitative modelling, will be of particular value, as will her expertise in  financial valuations of major national and international assets and companies, and in negotiating complex high value transactions”, said Ms Wensley.

“Ms Matysek’s demonstrated capacity in stakeholder relationship management and her substantial work on project design and goal setting will also be an asset to the Council as it considers the best growth pathways for the Institute for the coming years and provides strategic direction to guide its development.”

“I congratulate Ms Matysek on her appointment. All members of Council look forward to working with her, supporting and consolidating AIMS’ role as an international leader in marine research, delivering outcomes of benefit to government, industry and the wider community”.

The appointment of Ms Matysek follows the completion of almost ten years of service as a member of AIMS Council by Dr Brian Fisher AO, PSM. Dr Fisher, whose second term finished on 25 March 2017, provided AIMS with important insights in many areas, most notably economics and resource management. “Dr Fisher’s knowledge of government processes, and of public policy analysis and formulation, was a great asset in Council discussions. The insights provided by Dr Fisher were invaluable – we thank him sincerely for his significant contribution”, said Ms Wensley.
