Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor

The Australian Institute of Marine Science is the leading national organisation researching tropical marine ecosystems. The Institute has world-class laboratory facilities in Townsville Queensland, Perth Western Australia, and Darwin Northern Territory, two modern research vessels and extensive technical support. Facilities are being enhanced with $55M of capital funds from the Australian Government. This will include a state-of-the-art experimental ocean simulator in an extensive seawater precinct to support innovative research into coral spawning, water quality and climate change.

We are seeking to appoint a HSE Advisor to provide leadership and guidance in relation to health, safety and environmental issues within our research facilities. Focal areas will include enhancing the effectiveness of the current HSE reporting and management system, procedures and practices, laboratory safety, hazardous substance management, workplace rehabilitation and legislative compliance. This role requires proactive interaction with all AIMS work teams to foster a safe workplace.

The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of HSE issues and practices with a proven commitment towards creating a safe workplace as well as highly effective interpersonal and communication skills. Formal qualifications in health and safety or occupational hygiene are desirable.

Attractive working conditions apply including a remuneration package of $71,258 – $81,091 commencing salary plus up to 15.4% superannuation, learning and development opportunities, generous leave entitlements, 9 day fortnight, commuter car transportation to site and many other benefits. This opportunity will initially be offered for a fixed term period of three years.
