AIMS' Employment Register is a system that allows expressions of interest for possible short-term casual or temporary employment. The Register is used to employ all short-term casuals (maximum of three months) and temporary staff (maximum of 12 months).

Opportunities may be available in the following areas at AIMS:

Scientific Research

Assessing and Using Marine Biodiversity
Measuring Water Quality and Ecosystem Health
Responding to Climate Change
Understanding Marine Microbes and Symbioses

AIMS Support Services

Financial Services
Human Resources
Analytical Services
Engineering Services
Field Operations
Information Technology
Information Services
Science Communication
Supply and Property Services

Due to the nature of temporary and short-term employment, minimal training is available and only those with the appropriate experience and qualifications for the position will be considered. Please ensure that you identify the area of research or service to which your qualifications and experience are most suited.

Although registration does not constitute an offer of employment, all temporary and short-term staff must first be sourced from the AIMS Employment Register, in accordance with the collective agreement. If a suitably qualified person for the position cannot be sourced from the Register, only then can the position be advertised. This guarantees that your application will be considered before the position is even advertised…so it’s worth your while to register now.

To register, complete a Registration Form indicating the area/areas of research or support to which you are most suited and attach a copy of your Curriculum Vitae, then forward to AIMS by email ( recruitment@aims.gov.au ) or post to:

Your Registration Form and Curriculum Vitae will be placed on our Employment Register for no more than 12 months. As applicants’ details and availability change from year to year, application information lapses at the end of February each year. Notification of commencement of the new Registry will be advertised in March each year and a new application must be submitted then.

NOTE: If you have received a voluntary redundancy from Australian Public Service employment in the past 12 months, you are not eligible for employment.

Non-Australian residents are solely responsible for ensuring that they hold the appropriate visa required before commencement with AIMS.

AIMS is an Equal Opportunity Employer and promotes a smoke-free environment.

Anyone utilising AIMS facilities under any circumstances other than as employees for a period greater than two weeks (including paid contractors) must be registered as a visitor and complete a visitor registration form and the relevant online Safety Induction(s). If you are here for less than two weeks, you will need to sign in daily at Reception.

Safety induction
Everyone who works at AIMS is required to complete the appropriate AIMS workplace OHS&E safety induction(s) prior to working on site.
