Australian Research Council Centre of
Excellence for Coral Reef Studies
The Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence
(CoE) for Coral Reef Studies undertakes world-class integrated
research for sustainable use and management of coral reefs.
Funded in July 2005 under the ARCs Centres of Excellence
program, this prestigious research centre is headquartered at
James Cook University (JCU) in Townsville. The Centre is a
partnership of JCU, AIMS, the Australian National University
(ANU), the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) and
the University of Queensland (UQ).
Collectively, the Centre creates the worlds largest
concentration of coral reef scientists, consolidating Australia's
leading contribution to coral reef sciences and fostering
stronger international collaborative links and a leading role in
multi-national research programs.
Three AIMS scientists (Dr Janice Lough, Dr Madeleine Van Oppen
and Dr Mark Meekan) have shared appointments with the Centre and
AIMS co-invests in postdoctoral fellowship appointments.
